Uplifted coral reef associated with the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake (Northwestern part of the Andaman Islands)

Emerged coral reef uplifted during the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake can be observed in the northwestern part of the Andaman Islands. Micro atoll, assemblage of coral showing in the photo, is one of the best indicators to detect vertical crustal movement, because the top of surface indicates the lowest tide level. As a result of our survey, at least 1.5 me uplift is estimated in this site. See a report by Shishikura et al. in pages 147-160 for detail.
