Trench excavation survey on the Umi fault, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.
We conducted a trench excavation survey at Ueki site, Sue town, selected by Miyashita et. al. (page 79-98). Clear reverse fault zone was exposed on the trench wall. Layering of fluvial deposits show Z-shape deformed by the reverse fault zone. Gravel and humic silt layers are drugged by the fault and partially overturned. The uppermost part of the fault plane is sharp and covered by the gravel (age unknown).

Compressional stress (P-axis) directions of crustal earthquakes in northeastern Yamanashi prefecture are shown by red bars. The period of data is two years since mid-December 2013. Topography is based on 10 m-mesh basic map information digital model by Geophysical Information of Authority of Japan. The compressional stresses represent various directions, indicating that the stress fields are heterogeneous in a small area. See Imanishi et al. (page 53-77) for more detail.
