Abstract: The Mitoke fault system is composed of several left-lateral strike-slip faults trending WNW-ESE in the central part of Kyoto Prefecture. We opened an explanatory trench on the Mitoke fault, and two trenches on the Tonoda fault of this fault system. The results of these studies show that the Mitoke fault has not moved since at least about 1,700 years ago, and the Tonoda fault has not moved since at least about 3,000 years ago.
