Last month's earthquake
This screen shows the earthquakes that have occurred in
Japan and around the world within the last month. We look
at It shows the 3D hypocenter distributions from different
viewpoints, in which the earthquakes are plotted with
different colors and symbol sizes according to their
depths and magnitudes. The hypocenter distribution for the
earthquakes in Japan and the surrounding areas clearly
shows the seismic activities along the Pacific Plate and
the Philippine Sea Plate subducting to beneath the
Japanese islands. As for the earthquakes around the world,
we can see that the seismic activity is high along the
Pacific Rim.
Two earthquakes with seismic intensity 7 earthquakes
occurred in Kumamoto in April, 2016 resulting in severe
damages. In order to closely examine the seismic
activities in the region where the Kumamoto Earthquake
took place, we have in addition magnified and plotted the
earthquakes that have occurred in Kyushu since 1 April,
together with the distribution of active faults throughout
the region. We have thus temporarily added a close-up plot
of the earthquakes that have occurred in Kyushu since 1
April, together with the active faults. After In research,
after viewing a temporal variation of the epicenter
distribution, we look at the hypocenter distribution in 3D
from different viewpoints.
