アンモナイト（菊石）類 Ammonoids

 アンモナイト類はシルル紀末に現れ，デボン紀以降，特にジュラ紀や白亜紀に栄えましたが，白亜紀末に絶滅してしまいました．アンモナイトの化石は，それを含む地層の時代を決定することに役立つ示準化石です．「菊石」とも呼ばれ，「化石の王様」と言われるほど親しまれてもいます．
 Ammonites appeared at the end of the Silurian and flourished from the Devonian onward, especially during the Jurassic and Cretaceous, but became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous. Fossil ammonites are a useful index fossils for determining the age of the strata that contain them. Also known as "kikuishi" intend chrysanthemum stone, ammonites are so familiar that they are often referred to as the "king of fossils.
