 ラン藻類は，地球上で最初に現れた光合成を行う生物と考えられています．ラン藻類の光合成によって，それまで大気中にほとんどなかった酸素が増えていき，地球環境は大きく変わりました．
 Cyanobacteria are thought to be the first photosynthetic organisms to appear on the Earth. Photosynthesis by cyanophytes increased the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere, which had been almost nonexistent until then, and the global environment was drastically changed.
