私たち，国際惑星地球年日本，その参加機関・団体，さらにIYPE活動に協賛した団体や個人，そして本日，「惑星地球フォルム2010 in アキバ」の参加者は

- 国際連合総会が2008年を国連国際惑星地球年と決議し，

- ユネスコと国際地質科学連合(IUGS)が，その活動を担う主導的機関として指名され，

- さらに，2007年から2009年の3ヶ年を国際惑星地球年のための活動年として，世界中で国際惑星地球年活動が取り組まれ，

- 日本における活動が，日本学術会議地球惑星科学委員会IUGS分科会IYPE小委員会のもとに国際惑星地球年日本およびその参加機関・団体，さらには協賛団体等により推進され，

- この3ヶ年，国際惑星地球年のサブタイトル「社会のための地球科学」を具体化するため，さまざまな分野で活動が展開されてきたこと

を確認するとともに，さらに一層「地球の科学の知的すばらしさと社会的有用性，経済的有効性の認知・理解が社会一般に，そして特に今後の地球を担う青少年と政策立案者に浸透」するよう，これからも，

- 地球の科学の面白さと大切さを知ることが大変重要であることを再確認し，

- 地球についての膨大な知識と情報が自由に入手，利用されるようにすることを促し，

- 地球と環境，社会と文化を考える場としての「ジオパーク」，体感する日としての「地質の日」，あるいは学ぶ機会としての「地学オリンピック」などが一層発展することを期待し，

- 国際惑星地球年日本に集結した機関・団体，その協賛団体等が，これからも，連携し，協働し，様々な形のネットワークを形成し，

- さらにユネスコや国際地球科学関係諸団体の同意の下，新たに設立される国際組織への参画を通じて，日本におけるIYPEの志を継承することをめざしていくこと

を表明する。

AKIBA Declaration

We, the IYPE Japan, its Members, other bodies and individuals cooperating with the IYPE Japan, and those who join the Planet Earth Forum 2010 in AKIBA, acknowledge that

- the United Nations has declared 2008 as the United Nations Year of Planet Earth,

- the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) have been designated by the United Nations as the leading agencies to conduct activities during the International Year of Planet Earth,

- a vast range of science and outreach activities have been actively carried out all over the world during the Planet Earth Triennium 2007 - 2009,

- the IYPE Japan, established with close relationship to the Japanese National Committee for IYPE, a subsidiary of the IUGS Committee of Earth Planetary Science, Science Council of Japan, has promoted many activities in Japan in cooperation with its Members and other bodies, and consequently,

- a variety of activities of various fields have been developed within the past three years so as to embody the IYPE’s subtitle “Earth Science for Society,” and

declare that we will

- reaffirm that it is crucial to learn how important and exciting earth science is,

- encourage vast amount of information and knowledge on our planet to be freely-available,

- expect the further development of outreach initiatives such as Geoparks, the Geology Day, and the Earth Science Olympiad so that people can think about, feel, and learn the relationship between the Earth, environment, society and culture,

- assure the further cooperation, collaboration and networking among all the members gathered and cooperated under the IYPE Japan, and

- try to follow in the footsteps of IYPE in Japan, by participating in the new initiative of the Planet Earth Institute to be established with agreement among UNESCO and relevant international geoscientific organizations,

in order to show the general public, especially young people who will shape the planet’s future and policy makers, and make them recognize how wonderful and exciting it is to learn earth science, how usefully it is utilized in society, and how effectively it can stimulate the economy.
