"Urizun Outcrop" locality: Chinen Village, Okinawa Island.
This excellent exposure in a construction site, named as Urizun Outcrop, was discovered by geologists in 2001. The boundary of the muddy Shimajiri Group (Pliocene) and the sandy Chinen Formation (Plio-Pleistocene) is exposed in a lower right end of this outcrop. Excavations in a line from the base to the top was digged with geological hammer to climb up the wall for micropaleontological and paleomagnetic samples. No one can see the section any more because it had been covered with construction materials completely. "Urizun" means the best season in Okinawa at the beggining of summer.
