火砕流堆積物などの噴出時期から活動履歴を解明する |

ある火山の周辺に分布する溶岩流や火砕流堆積物が今からどのくらい前に地上に噴き出したかを正確に知ることは,火山の噴火活動履歴を明らかにする際に,また,今後の噴火活動を予測をする際に必要不可欠である. Figure Comparison between K-Ar ages calculated by our new age derivation procedure and those calculated by the conventional procedure for the late Quaternary volcanic products in Kisho-Ontake Volcano, Central Japan. The samples dated have been erupted repeatedly over the past 100 ka (100,000 years ago). Our new procedure is one of the solutions to get appropriate age information for late Quaternary volcanic products whose K-Ar ages calculated by the conventional process give insufficient age information. Error bars indicate 1σ uncertainty level. |
